Organization

It seems that no matter what you do, how much you plan, that things change and generally that change comes at a time when you have the least amount of time to deal with said change.

Last summer when we got all the totes of burls for making bowls we put them in the spot that would give us the best use of our space. Well, it seems that the best use of space may not have been the best place for all the burl!

While none of them were really in danger, this time, we now have to work on moving them to a safer location up behind the shop. Which is actually ok, since it will mean it’s also closer to the shop and easier to go choose a new project piece.

One of those project pieces came not from the burls in this batch, but from a friend in MT while we were living there. This is Black Ash burl and has been drying in the shop for at least 5 years no. It’s interesting wood to work with and when I started processing the back we discovered that it looks a lot like a Giraffe. It’s now in the “waiting for epoxy” pile and I’ll post photos of the finished product once we get there. That’s another aspect of the organization, not doing one bowl / thing at a time with epoxy, but waiting until there is a batch to do and doing them all at the same time.

Solid Shop Time!

When I can get good solid shop time I can get a lot done. It’s just getting that solid shop time that is the issue. Still, no complaining, here are a few of the things in the process or finished over the last weekend.

Two medium size Oregon Cut Outs with rusty tin roofing.

Fifteen double wine carriers ready to hit the router table.

Two sets of rustic, giant Knife, Fork, Spoon.

Two large Oregon cut outs glued up and ready for lay out/ cutting.

One each medium and small Oregon cut outs glued up.

Five bread troughs roughed out, two more ready for finish.

Eight spatula handles for the blades Lynn has made out of stainless steel.

One Michigan cut out finished and mailed to a customer in VA.

Photos below of most of these items.
